Sacraments

Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step of initiation into the Catholic Christian community.  Through this Sacrament we are cleansed of original sin and receive the grace and gifts of the Holy Spirit that assist us in living our life in Christ.

If you would like to have your child baptized at St. Matthew, we ask that you attend a Baptism Preparation class.  We ask that you bring the original and a photocopy of your child's birth certificate, or hospital certificate of live birth, as well as your Photo ID and a copy of your photo id to the preparation class.  If you are attending the class before your child has been born, you may bring the documentation to the Parish Office after the birth of your child.  You will schedule the time and date for the Baptism at this class.

If you, or your child (who is 7 or older) wishes to be baptized, please contact the Religious Education Office in order to schedule your preparatory classes for Baptism.  Typically you will participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Program and be baptized at the Easter Vigil, however, other arrangements can be made based on individual circumstances.  Please contact the Religious Education office for more info at 847-891-1220.
