Building up the Body of Christ with welcoming arms, loving hearts and joyful worship.
Small Church Communities (SCC) are a gathering of 8 -12 persons who reflect on the coming Sunday’s scripture readings, seek to understand what God is saying to them in their lives and how they respond to God’s Word. The gatherings are a time for bringing people together for personal reflection, faith sharing of scripture, responding to individual and family needs, and socializing.
Small Church Communities help persons grow in living their faith by reflecting on God’s word in their lives and their response to the world around them. In each of the Small Church Communities, Christian Community building takes place through the bonds that are formed and in their gathering as a whole.
Small Church Communities afford participants an opportunity to grow by broadening their understanding of God’s Word as he speaks to us today. It offers an opportunity for persons to meet new people. It affords parishioners the time and the place to gather in small groups and become “church” on a smaller level as they pray and respond to local needs.
No special skills are needed to belong to a Small Church Community. There is a training session for the “pastors” of each group so that all groups can know what the others are doing and planning. Moreover, if any questions arise at the gatherings, the pastor can respond to these concerns with a clear and correct response.
Small Church Communities generally meet once a month. Some groups choose to meet twice a month. It is up to each group to determine their frequency. Most small church communities meet in people’s homes, but a few meet in the Parish Ministry Center.
New members can make up their own group or they would be put into an existing group.
