Protecting Our Children & Vulnerable People

All volunteers who work with children or vulnerable adults must conform to the policies set forth by the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office for Protecting Children and Youth.  Please contact our Safe Environment Program Site Administrator, Trish Nelli, for more information and guidelines.

Required Background Checks and Virtus training

The Archdiocese of Chicago requires background checks and safe environment training for all volunteers who work with or have regular contact with minors or vulnerable adults. When you sign up for a particular ministry, the coordinator of that ministry will inform you as to whether or not you need a background check for that ministry and will provide you with the appropriate forms and information necessary to complete the background check if it is required. The coordinator will also let you know the dates and times of the required Protecting God’s Children/Virtus trainings. You may also go on line at www.virtusonline.org.
