St. Matthew Parish, together with Church of the Holy Spirit, St. Hubert and St. Marcelline have started our Renew My Church process as part of Phase 6, the final wave of parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Renew My Church effort.
“The purpose is to create and renew vital and sustainable parishes that have the appropriate vision, leadership and resources to create an effective culture of evangelization that makes disciples, builds communities and inspires witness” to the Gospel message.
Our four-parish grouping will be identified as the Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Catholic Community. Each parish is represented by their pastor and five team members. The St. Matthew representatives are myself, Milissa Bartold, Marie Baumert, Janice Corey, Bob Jachnicki and Martin Ross.
During the week of August 16-20, the four pastors attended workshops on Zoom to begin our process. Our entire group of representatives met online with Cardinal Cupich also for prayer, questions and answers on Thursday evening, August 18, online as well.
Our first meeting for the whole Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates grouping took place at Church of the Holy Spirit on Monday, August 22nd. The grouping will be meeting in-person weekly over the next several months, rotating parish locations. We ask that you join us in prayer as we embark on this Renew My Church discernment process. Updates will be provided in the bulletin and there will be a parish-wide meeting scheduled in the weeks ahead, so please keep an eye out for that announcement.
