Welcome!
St.
Matthew Parish was canonically established on March 21,
1976. However, our beginnings started in late 1974 when
John Cardinal Cody had a meeting with Fr. Ed Hughes and
told him he would found a new Parish in the Eastern section
of Schaumburg, Il. The first Sunday Mass took place at Meineke
Recreation Center on March 1, 1975, with approximately 200
people attending.
Things
have changed a lot since then. St. Matthew is now the spiritual
home of almost 3000 households or 9000 people! Our 16 acres
of land, bordering on two sides by a nature center, now
have four buildings erected on them. We are a thriving faith
community. Hundreds of volunteers help to run the many ministries
and programs that serve our parishioners. Over the last
few years, it seems that the Lord has truly blessed us and
poured out his Spirit upon us. Bound together in charity
and love, the diversity of cultures spiritualities, lifestyles,
and age make us a truly Catholic family.
Our
most important priorities are prayerful and uplifting liturgies,
spiritual renewal, the formation of our young, the continued
religious education of adults, the corporal works of mercy,
the development of lay leadership, and stewardship.
If you found our web page, pray for us. The power of prayer
truly accomplishes miracles. The Lord Jesus is the one upon
whom we rely. It is the power of his love that continues
to keep us faithful to the Word and Traditions that make
us faithful servants.
The grace and peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ be with you!
